to play a key role in the development of
Warfighter's Edge Software Package with The United States Air Force |
Warfighter’s Edge (WEdge) is an Air
Combat Command (ACC) sponsored briefing
room system. Designed for ease of use in
today’s restricted standard desktop
environment while allowing pilots to
update and manage the system themselves
(no need for a programmer). Based in MS
PowerPoint, WEdge retrieves, organizes
and presents detailed mission
information directly to the Warfighter
preparing for combat and training
sorties. The application provides a
standardized yet flexible system that
updates real-time information
automatically while simultaneously
retrieving data from a variety of
net-centric sources. The unique
machine-to-machine transfer of data
gives aircrew insight into information
never before available in the briefing
room, such as visibility into JFACC
objectives and target prioritization. An
interface with Patriot Excalibur (PEX –
Wing/Squadron information) retrieves
useful and relevant information such as
tail numbers, weapons loads, parking
locations and aircrew currency. Real
time weather data is also retrieved and
displayed through WEdge. Users can
display a complete weather picture
showing multiple locations with
respective color codes tailored to their
requirements. Additionally, when
accessing a single airfield, weather is
displayed automatically along with other
pertinent details.
The primary focus of WEdge is to provide
an information delivery application that
is managed by the aircrew in the
squadron and services every DoD user.
Specific personnel are given authority
to update and maintain the system. The
enterprise architecture allows different
units to share information, retrieve
updates or download data with ease. Spin
up for deployed operations is no more
difficult than downloading the desired
modules and setting the system to a new
location.
developersDen is one
of the primary contractors working on
this project. Patrick Speer is the
Senior Software Developer/Architect and
Daniela Trapani is Senior Software
Developer. Steven Trapani works as
the Systems/Network Administrator for
the entire WEdge Team.
